Our New Car

We just purchased our new car for Dakar. It's just like the Montero here in the states. Mitsubishi made these especially for the Dakar Rally. It is a diesel, so hopefully we can find some biodiesel while we are there. Maybe this would be a great time for me to experiment with making my own?

Garden

It's May and we just got our last round of shots-ouch! Three people emailed us about renting our place, so that's good. Hopefully they will work out. The picture is of the garden to our bungalow in Dakar.

Jen Bulluck got me a gift card to REI for my Birthday and I bought this really cool, rechargable via USB port lantern. No batteries required. It can also be charged by spinning the attached handle. They say that the electricity goes out about once a month and that we'd need a good lantern. Thanks Jen!

I am getting excited to move.

Google Earth Image

If you look to the middle of the image, in between the ocean and the road, and nestled in a somewhat green square, you'll see four or five round bungalow roofs with a pool in the back. We think that one of these will be our place.

We received a photo of our new house in Dakar. keep in mind it is a bungalow. I guess it's okay, but it's nothing like our Portland farm house. Does anyone have any cheap, resourceful, green, decorating ideas?

Getting Ready To Leave

We leave in August and there is so much to do: rent the house out, get a zillion shots, sell stuff, buy stuff we need...

The good news is we got our housing assignment. Looks like we will be getting a bungalow with a pool and garden that tortoises frequent. I am excited but know that I'll miss Oregon too.
